
Private Pilot's Licence
Private Pilot Licence (PPL) allows you to fly larger, more powerful aircraft, carry more passengers and to fly your friends/family anywhere in Australia. You are not permitted to charge for your services as a pilot without holding a Commercial Pilot Licence (CPL) but you are permitted to cost share with your passengers.

Prerequisites
To get a PPL you must be:

at least 17 years old
-
able to speak and understand a certain level of English.

You must also do a medical test and get a medical certificate.
CASA issue these medical certificate classes for a PPL licence:

Basic Class 2 to take the PPL flight test.

Class 1 or Class 2 to fly an aircraft.

Requirments
Flight time

Total Aeronautical Experience: 40 hours

Up to 5 hours can be in a flight simulator.

Pilot-in-Command (PIC) Flight Time: 35 hours

At least 30 hours must be in an aeroplane.

Solo Flight Time: 10 hours

Must be in an aeroplane.

Solo Cross-Country Flight: 5 hours

Must be in an aeroplane.

Must include a flight of at least 100 nautical miles with landings at two aerodromes other than where the flight began.

Dual Instrument Flight Time: 2 hours

Can be in a flight simulator.

Dual Flight Time: 1 hour

Must be in an aeroplane.

Theory
In addition to the exams required for an RPL licence you will be required to sit a PPL Theory Exam set by CASA.

- Night VFR
- Instrument rating
- Multi-Engine Class rating
- Design Feature endorsements
- Flight activity endorsements
